First Nations Narrative Practice conference

We are so excited to host this inaugural First Nations Narrative Practice conference over two days at Dulwich Centre in Tarntanya, Adelaide. This event will feature hopeful and creative stories of practice from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander counsellors, teachers, health workers, youth workers and more! This event is led by and created for First Nations folks and will be open to practitioners who have already completed at least a Dulwich Centre one week intensive in narrative practice.

Space is limited so priority is going to be given to First Nations folks from Australia and the Pacific.  We encourage you to get in quick!

It’s thirty years since Reclaiming our stories, reclaiming our lives heralded the first Aboriginal narrative practice project. Since then, the landmark book ‘Telling our stories in ways that make us stronger’ by Aunty Barbara Wingard and Jane Lester created a pathway that many others have now followed and extended. There is now an Aboriginal narrative practice free online course; two other key collections of papers; and over 30 First Nations graduates of the Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work (see here a collective valedictory speech).

This event is being held on the grounds of Dulwich Centre which is co-located with St John’s Anglican church.  To allow for more people to attend, the main gathering place for this event will be in the church.  We acknowledge the complexity of this, and that for many people, the church has caused harm and has been used as a vehicle of colonisation.  For this reason, the event will begin with ceremony to address this and all care will be taken throughout the conference to centre cultural safety.
